Course Details
There is a growing demand for sporting events to provide an immersive experience and a lasting legacy. Organising such events means managing the expectations and experiences of a range of stakeholders, including athletes, spectators, sponsors and governing bodies.
You will study the growing importance of sporting events in society, and you will learn how to plan and deliver them and assess their impact.
Our course provides an opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge as well as sound organisational and business skills. It will incorporate all aspects of management, including creativity, administration, planning, co-ordination and evaluation of all types of sports events. In addition, our course will provide an in-depth awareness of the industry and an insight into the management of sporting venues and support services, specifically in terms of event operations.
The industry increasingly demands managers who have the technical skills, expertise and specialist knowledge to manage sports events from inception, through fundraising and sponsorship negotiation, to client management and final delivery.
This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘sandwich’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total. Students who choose the sandwich route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you. This is in addition to trips and visits to sports stadiums and facilities, giving you a unique insight into the management of sporting events. Previous students have worked at venues including Lords Cricket Ground and for events such as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and the Singapore Grand Prix.
The University has been given a five-star rating for our academic work in Hospitality & Leisure Management by QS, the international higher education benchmarking agency.
